Communities that are economically disadvantaged often lack adequate emergency preparedness resources, including awareness and training. In Maine, studies show that low-income households have a significantly lower rate of disaster preparedness compared to their higher-income counterparts. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention notes that only 34% of low-income families have an emergency plan in place, increasing their vulnerability during disasters.
This funding initiative focuses on enhancing disaster preparedness training for these vulnerable communities through workshops and simulations.
